CJ's Sight NXT Review 08/28/2014

The Ascension squashed two jobbers in 1:05

Rinse and repeat with theses squashes. They need to be called up NOW!

Jojo introduced the new manager of NXT. William Regal came out to a good pop.

Regal put over Full Sail University for their contributions to NXT. He announced, with Neville at his side, that at NXT Takeover II the NXT Championship main even match would be the Champion Adrian Neville vs. Tyson Kidd vs. Tyler Breeze vs. Sami Zayn in a fatal four-way match.

Solid work by all men stating their case for a match as briefly as possible. Neville played the overzealous baby face well. I am glad to see William Regal be named as the NXT General Manager.

Backstage, Regal put over the fatal four-way match for NXT Takeover II. He announced the main event being Kidd and Breeze vs. Zayn and Neville in a tag team match.

Bayley pins Sasha Banks in 3:14

This was a very good effort from the gals and they told an easily identifiable story given the short amount of time. I feel like the talented Divas in WWE are synonymous with the term “short amount of time”, which is a shame. The post-match promo with Charlotte and Bayley was very well done as well. It put over their Takeover II match very well with a non-shake of the hand bit. The heel and baby face was easily established here. Well done with your heel promo, Charlotte, and very well done with your baby face promo Bayley.

Bull Dempsey squashes Angelo Dawkins 2:47

This was a prolonged squash match with a victory coming off a Bulldozer. Nothing much more needs to be said. I have low expectations for the Bull vs. Mojo feud because Mojo is horrible and Bull is still so green. Maybe they can prove me wrong. I doubt it though.

Les Legionnaires cut a backstage promo on Enzo and Cassidy. They challenged Enzo and Cassidy to a match while they were speaking mostly French. I hardly understood it, but I am willing to give the feud a chance.

Tyson Kidd and Tyler Breeze defeat NXT Champion Adrian Neville and Sami Zayn by pin fall in 10:01

This was a solidly wrestled match with all wrestlers showing excellent ring skills. This, to me, was the WWE’s match of the week. Neville once again impressed everyone watching by hitting a Red Arrow on Breeze jumping off Zayn’s back. Neville has amazing athleticism. I could see that 100 times and still be impressed. The crowd’s chant “that was awesome” is more than deserved with that move. The story at the end of this match was fantastic with Zayn holding the NXT Championship after losing the match. It gave the ‘every man for himself’ aura that should always happen during fatal four ways.

Overall, this was a good edition of NXT.  It was not over the top with quality, but I enjoyed and understood all of its directions. The only true ‘miss’ I would give the show is the Ascension squashing another unnamed tag team. Would the WWE please call this team up already and shake up the already abysmal tag team division? The rest of the show did not disappoint. The ladies put on a very good, but short, match. The post-match segment was very well done by Bayley and Charlotte. It gave me the impression that Charlotte might walk out of Takeover II as the Women’s Champion. Which is the goal. I was happy to see Lord Steven Regal, er, William Regal announced as the NXT General Manager. If he stays straightforward as opposed to becoming a gimmick, he will do very well. The Takeover II main event will be a phenomenal match. I cannot wait to see that fatal four-way.

Final grade: 6.5/10
